Over 35 years of working in the global energy industry, I learned to lead from the trenches. An Honor Graduate of the US Army’s Primary Leadership Development Course, I have sought to develop and hone my leadership acumen as an individual contributor with Marathon Oil Company, transitioning to front-line supervisory positions with Halliburton Energy Services and ultimately retiring from Shell Oil Company as a mid-level manager after 20 years of service.
Along the way, I have learned how to be led and how to effectively lead individuals, small teams and organizations. I have witnessed the criticality of identifying and nurturing leadership potential. I understand the impact of casting vision with inspiration. My involvement with non-profit organizations has augmented my professional experience. The principles of effective leadership apply everywhere people are endeavoring to accomplish things together.
Over 40 years of marriage and raising 4 children has contributed mightily to my learning.
The adage that “people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care” rings true in my experience. Whether leading professionals in for-profit seeking ventures, troops training for potential combat or volunteers in non-profit scenarios, people are drawn to authentic passionate leadership. Becoming one worthy of being followed is a journey. I have been a member of teams with inspirational leadership that have accomplished amazing results and unfortunately experienced the converse. I am passionate regarding helping others demonstrate authentic care as they identify and nurture the skills and gifts inherent in their teams.
I have received world-class training including graduation from Wharton as a participant in Shell’s Group Business Leadership Program followed by enhancing leadership skills as a component of an Executive MBA from Rice University’s Jones School of Business. I have also benefited from a plethora of internal leadership development programs within Shell.
I have received certificates in Spiritual Leadership Formation and administration of the Enneagram as a powerful transformational tool.
